Understanding the filter stages

Most RO purifiers use several stages. The exact stages depend on the model — yours may not have all of these.

  • Sediment filter — catches sand, rust and larger particles
  • Carbon filter(s) — commonly used to reduce chlorine, odour and taste issues
  • RO membrane — the main reverse-osmosis stage that reduces dissolved solids
  • Post-carbon / UV / UF stages — fitted on many models as final stages

How we replace

Checked first, replaced only when needed

Different stages wear at different rates. FILTARO inspects each part, shows you what needs replacing and why, and only then fits the new filters or membrane.

  • Condition of each filter and the membrane checked
  • Replacement explained before any part is changed
  • Connections checked for leaks after fitting
  • Purifier run and tested after replacement

Signs

Signs your filters or membrane may need attention

Filter and membrane life varies with water quality, usage and the purifier model. These signs are a reason to have it checked:

Slower water flow

Clogged filters can reduce how quickly purified water is produced.

Taste or smell change

A change in taste or odour can point to filters that need replacing.

Interval reached

The replacement interval suggested for your purifier has passed.

Output still poor after filter change

May indicate the membrane needs checking or replacement.

FAQ

Filters & Membrane — Questions

When should RO filters be replaced?

It depends on water quality, usage and filter type. Slower flow, taste changes or reaching your purifier’s recommended interval are common signs; an inspection confirms what actually needs replacing.

When does an RO membrane need replacement?

The membrane usually lasts longer than the pre-filters, depending on feed water, usage and pre-filter maintenance. Reduced output or taste changes even after filter changes can point to the membrane.

Do all filters need to be replaced at once?

Not always. Different stages wear at different rates, so replacement is based on each part’s condition and the purifier’s requirements.
